Sending probe droids across the galaxy, the Galactic Empire located the Rebel Alliance stronghold on planet Hoth, a site called Echo Base. Outside of the armor and weaponry Echo Base was equipped with, Hoth's extreme weather granted the rebels another level of defense.

Deploying troops that were trained and outfitted for combat effectiveness in extreme cold, the Galactic Empire's army, led by Darth Vader, would launch an assault to destroy Echo Base.
