The Automated Director represents the rapid progress of British research into advanced automated warfare. Developed at Bletchley Park, these command units have appeared at a remarkable pace, with production struggling to keep up as new designs continue to emerge.

Less than a year after the first deployment of Mk I Automated Infantry in Belgium, fully automated platoons are now becoming increasingly common. At the centre of these formations are the Automated Directors, based on the improved Mk II design and equipped with enhanced computational and radio systems that allow them to coordinate nearby automated units with greater efficiency.

Entirely automated platoons offer major battlefield advantages, reducing British human casualties and avoiding the mounting psychological strain faced by human soldiers in the horrors of war. Even so, Automated Directors remain limited by their programming, lacking the imagination and adaptability of human commanders and relying on tactics prepared in advance by British engineers.
